Your efforts to bring the Nomatsigenga Tribe through the pain and struggles of this Pandemic was successful. 75 families across 5 native communities were provided with food staples to support their health and nutrition as a direct result of your generosity. The effort was initially delayed as COVID-19 moved into the region and caused a strict lock-down. But after a month the government realized that the people could not continue without access to food and the lock-down was relaxed enough that our missionary partners could go ahead with the plans to obtain the food and get it into the hands of the families.
As you have probably faced challenges through this Pandemic as it affects your work and all of your life, it has been a challenge for our missionaries as well. From the lock-down that stopped these plans in their tracks for a month, to roads made impassable even for their 4-wheel drive truck in the rains, to one village that wouldn’t let them in to give away the food even with their masks, gloves, and lots of precautions. Fear is a powerful motivator. I always believed hunger to be also, but it appears that fear can even trump hunger at times. That was a new lesson for me. However, our faithful missionaries persisted through the challenges and met the goal, helping and witnessing to 75 families in the process. Of course, they are also not finished yet. We are preparing for a second wave to help even more families remain healthy and strong as the Pandemic rages on in Peru.
In addition to knowing that 75 families have what they need to continue on in the midst of this difficult time, hearing what it meant to them was great! Several times our missionaries were told that the leaders of these communities had felt forgotten and all alone. But they were able to tell them that God has not forgotten them, and that you have not forgotten them! Because of that they were being presented with the food that they so desperately needed, and the leaders were extremely grateful for that much needed support and love! We are also grateful for that generous support and love shown for those that have so little. We never forget that without you, we can’t help them, so thank you!
